Excess Baggage

I gasped for breath as I was about to take my first step up on the ride that would take me to the other side of the sea.  The stairs above me has overwhelmed my soul, nevertheless, I made myself ready. Picking up my luggage, I mustered strength to carry about twenty-five kilos of books and dress up to the seats up on that barge.

Ako nalang dala.

A young man approached me.

Ako ra uy. Bug-at raba na.

Regardless of my protest, he carried my bags, rested his feet on those steps, and up he went. I can see his struggle but at last it was over as he lifted for his last stair. I thanked Him and GOD above all.

Taking a rest and seated, I leaned over and saw the big bag I carried with me. It has wearied my body after having carried it through my travel. I fairly knew the reason why I had to endure such burden.

Excess baggage.

the bags I carried with me

the bags I carried with me

I knew it was full of things that I cannot use for they were excess. Yes, useful they are, but , miscalculated. And it has given me burdens and unnecessary weights to carry.

The apostle Paul Exhorted,

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Heb 12:1

In our living Christian lives, we mostly bring excess baggage with us. And this has not left us without taking its toll. Sin has given us burdens and has made us wearisome in our journey to life eternal.

Carefully and prayerfully, we should weigh that which is accounted worthy for us to carry. Let off the excess. Lay off the sin.

As for me, the cross is the only thing worthy.

Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

 Mark 8:34
